Join us on this cosmic journey and witness the breathtaking wonders that lie beyond the stars.
History
The Kauring Robotic Deep Sky Observatory was established in March 2010. Our observatory has a rich history, having been relocated from its original location near the township of Yarloop, South of Perth. At the heart of our facility is the remarkable 508mm (20 inches) Corrected Dall-Kirkham telescope, crafted by PlaneWave Instruments of California, USA. With its cutting-edge design, this telescope offers an expansive and flat field of view, perfectly suited to seamlessly work with the latest large-format commercial CCD cameras. Guided by the exceptional Paramount ME telescope mount, engineered by Software Bisque of Golden, Colorado, USA, we effortlessly locate and track deep-sky astronomical objects. Join us on our journey to unravel the mysteries of the cosmos at the Kauring Robotic Deep Sky Observatory.
Location

Immerse yourself in the tranquility of the Avon Valley township of Kauring, just a short distance from the historic town of York. Our observatory’s idyllic location provides optimal stargazing conditions with minimal light pollution, making it the perfect haven for astronomy enthusiasts. Uncover the mysteries of the night sky and embark on an extraordinary celestial journey with us.
Kauring township
In the heart of Western Australia lies Kauring, a town with a rich history rooted in the abundance of nature. Originally known as Cowering, this was a place where the purple-crowned lorikeets, known as Cower, flocked to feed on the vibrant blossoms of the Salmon gums. With the arrival of the York to Quairading railway line in the early 1900s, the town’s name transformed into Kauring. Today, at Kauring Robotic Deep Sky Observatory, we celebrate this heritage by exploring the wonders of the cosmos, just as the lorikeets once soared amongst the trees. Join us on a journey of discovery and marvel at the beauty of the universe.
